CAPITAL SUCCESS AGAINST ALL ODDS
Every capital campaign is tough, but few are as challenging as the campaign that our founding partner Katherine DeFoyd helped lead to transform the Fort Washington Armory into a multipurpose community center and Olympic-caliber track facility. Consultants had concluded a campaign would not be feasible because The Armory Foundation lacked an obvious donor base. Katherine used her vast experience in government affairs to secure millions in capital and program funding. Today, the Armory, which the New York Times had described as “a blot on the map,” is a vital community asset that serves 100,000 people each year and houses the National Track and Field Hall of Fame and a Technology and Learning Center.
“Katherine DeFoyd is one of a kind… She has personally directed this institution to over $15 million of capital and programmatic funding without which the Armory would not be what it is today.”
